Busy week for us here at WGM! I have loved working on the internship promotional stuff. I have made an “at a glance” sheet for each of the 5 internships and am currently working on internship packets for each. It is fun to be working on something that all needs to fit and flow together. I think it’ll be awesome when it is finished! Tuesday I also worked on another story for the web page. It as about a robbery that happened to a missionary family in Argentina. I wrote a rough draft of the story off of the information I had and then e-mailed the missionary for the details to fill in the gaps.
I was pleasantly surprised Wednesday morning that the missionary in Argentina had already written me back. I spent some time finishing the story, sent it in, had edits sent to me, I made then edits and sent it to the final editor. So that was a fast fun story- when it gets posted I’ll try to remember to put the link on here! Other than that on Wednesday I did a lot of work on the packets- they were all so different and had nothing holding them together as a series.
Thursday was just…entertaining. I did some odd assignments and finished the writing for the intern material and started doing some of the design stuff with Liz, but mostly I started my first Heroes of the Faith story. The retired missionary’s name is LeRoy Lindahl and he and his wife (deceased) were missionaries in the jungles of Bolivia for 30 years. I spent hours today going through all of their files- medical forms, applications, prayer letters, pictures, ect ect…and I still have a lot more to go through! It is SO awesome to be reading what they wrote while on the field. Even reading about their upbringings in Wisconsin made me think a lot about how youth haven’t really changed that much from then to today in terms of walking with God. I am excited to get to interview LeRoy and write his story. But just for your enjoyment here is my favorite 2 quotes from Mrs. Lindalh’s application back in the 1950s. She was sharing her life sketch, “That summer led to dates. He was in love—I prayed—He wasn’t tall dark or handsome. But God spoke and I said, ‘Yes, Lord.’ We were married.” This just made me laugh. Another question was do sing? And her answer was “In emergencies.” That made me chuckle as well.
Over all this week has been productive and, more importantly, fun. So I’ll keep researching and writing and tell you my favorite stories :D
