Well I am finishing up my first week at WGM! It has been pretty exciting!
My hours this week were:
Tuesday 10:30am-2pm
Wednesday 9am-2pm
Thursday 8:30am-2pm
Total for the week is 14 hours
Total hours is 14 hours.
On Tuesday I spent my time doing some orientation things. Tuesdays at 10:30am is the WGM chapel so I started with that. Then I watched a video about WGM and joined everyone for lunch. After that it was a little bit of paperwork, learning about the WGM e-mail and ActiveCollab systems, and reading through the latest issue of The Call to see the format and writing style for the magazine.
Wednesday I checked out WGM's social media tools and saw how they all work together and I explored the website. My first assignment was given to me. I had to write a story for the upcoming issue of The Call. It is a 400 word piece titled "Do you believe in transformed lives?" I had to call a man named Bob Heineman from Brookhaven and set up an interview time. Luckily he was available later that day. I prepared for the phone interview by writing out all the questions I wanted to make sure I asked. Another assignment of mine right now is to update ministry information on the website. On Wednesday I worked on The Taylor Community Center in Texas near the Mexico border. I had to review the information, write questions that I needed answered so I could update the information, and sent the email to the appropriate contact people. Then after lunch I went ahead and had my interview with Bob. It went really well and I was able to take a lot of notes.
Thursday morning is department prayer morning so I joined in on that. After prayer I wrote my first story! Then after writing the first version of the story I wrote a second for the same story just because I still wasn't totally sure of the way it would work best in the magazine. Then I submitted them to Tracy, my supervisor, and she told me her favorite and that was that!
So, this week has been productive and exciting! It will be fun to hear back from the Taylor Community Center people and get that all updated. It is awesome to be writing for an organization that is doing so much in the world, but needs these writings in order to get the manpower to keep up the work!
